Precautions

  • Resurfacing treatments can cause increased sensitivity to the skin depending on the client’s skin type/condition and their current at home regimen. Side effects may include (but are not limited to): stinging, itching, irritation, redness, swelling, tightness, peeling, and/or scabbing of the skin.

  • Avoid all sun exposure, tanning beds, saunas, hot baths/showers, and hot tubs before and after. Only bathe and wash your face with warm water and a pH balanced cleanser. Do NOT pick, rub, or scrub the skin. This can lead to scarring and skin damage.

  • Avoid all waxing and depilatories for 1 week before and up to 7 days after your treatment. Do not shave for at least 24 hours before and 48 hours after your treatment.

  • Discontinue the use of any exfoliants, glycolic acid, AHA/BHA, and/or benzoyl peroxide ingredients for at least 24 hours before and 5-7 days after any resurfacing treatments.

  • Discontinue the use of prescription vitamin A Keratolytic drugs for 7 days before and after treatment.

  • SPF is recommended daily both before and after your treatment or hyperpigmentation and skin damage may occur. We recommend using an SPF 50 and/or something with HEV/Blue Light and Environmental protection such as our COOLA 360 products.

  • If receiving a chemical peel, remove your contact lenses before the treatment.

  • Peels aren’t for everyone. You are required to disclose any known allergies or sensitivities to products or skincare ingredients via intake form and/or consultation with our staff prior to your treatment.

  • Your esthetician may choose not to complete this treatment due to health history, active allergies/sensitivities, skin type/condition, or other concerns from your intake process and may ask you to either reschedule your peel/microdermabrasion or consult with a physician before receiving a resurfacing treatment at Vela.

  • Your esthetician will recommend a post treatment regimen. For stronger peels and depending on your skin, certain post treatment kits/ products may be mandatory.
